i haven’t heard any good, new music in a few weeks. not that i remember anyway.
and i guess that since i don’t remember that means i really haven’t heard anything great.
brit played a song for me called “coke” by flickerstick. i’ve heard of them. and i’m pretty sure the song’s not new by any means. but i liked it. probably not enough to get me to click my own link and check out their other stuff, but maybe i’ll add them to the excel spreadsheet of “music i need to check out.”
yes. i have an excel spreadsheet titled “music i need to check out.”
that’s what you do when you don’t have a job, kids.
see, i got sick of reading all my music magazines and dog-earring any page with a band that sounded interesting, only to throw the mag in a pile, never throwing it away because “there are bands in there that i want to check out.” obviously my house was a mess with magazines that i’d never toss, yet never pick up again. so i started putting any band that i’d normally dog-ear a page for into a spreadsheet. that way, when i’m done reading the mag, i can trash it.
and it’s working so far. i found the parlor mob thanks to that spreadsheet (and, of course, sid’s SXSW ‘08 blog that mentioned the band in the first place). that was at least a couple of months ago though, but i started listening to the parlor mob’s album, you are a crow, again because it’s awesome and i’m tired of all my “new” music.
anyway, if you like zeppelin, you’ll love the parlor mob. to be honest they probably rip off zep a little TOO much, but, since zeppelin isn’t playing/recording anymore, i say that’s totally ok. plus, i’ve never really seemed to mind bands that sound like other bands…especially if they’re like, “yeah, that’s what we’re doing.”
i think i’m going to make a playlist consisting of the parlor mob, black rebel motorcycle club, zeppelin, and (maybe) upside. yeah, i’m adding upside too. R.I.P.
speaking of playlists, i finally got around to creating the 27,000 playlists that i came up with. granted, they’re all but empty now, but dammit, when i open itunes they’re all listed there!
(i began the process of actually adding songs to the playlists, but i made myself promise that i wouldn’t wuss out and start throwing whole artists and whole albums in at once just ‘cause i was lazy. that makes for a worthless playlist. so anyway, because of my forced tediousness, i only made it through the first two artists in my library, acceptance and admiral twin. i might finish some day…)
but hey, speaking of itunes, it has FINALLY updated and i’m now going to sync up my brand new fucking iphone (that i spent five hours in line for and another four and a half trying to straighten out since they completely fucked up my account) and then try to figure out why “latoyajohnson” (orsomething) is the default apple store ID on MY phone.
i just want to download the fun maze app and play, man!
bands mentioned: flickerstick, the parlor mob, led zeppelin, black rebel motorcycle club, upside, acceptance, admiral twin. (whew.)
